New Yorker, W, and TIME Win Ellie Awards for Photography and Video

The New Yorker magazine has won the 2018 National Magazine Award for feature photography for “Faces of an Epidemic,” Philip Montgomery’s photo essay about the growing opioid crisis in the U.S. W magazine won the award for photography for the fourth time, and TIME magazine, in conjunction with Mic, won the Video award for “Life After Addiction,” a video by Aja Harris and Paul Moakley. Winners were announced at an awards ceremony in New York on Tuesday.

The awards, also known as the Ellies, are sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors in association with Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Sixteen print and digital publications won awards in 20 categories this year. The New Yorker led the awards count with three awards. In addition to the Feature Photography Award, it also won awards in the News, Sports and Entertainment category and the Public Interest category.

W previously won the Photography award in 1998, 2006 and 2011.
